No Pulp Music--founded in October of 2008-- is a combination between an online magazine and blog. Our staff includes musicians, industry folk, writers, photographers, and people who just plain like to jam. There is no formula to the site posts, and our coverage ranges from random music rants to more traditional article-style album and show reviews. The site also features a photography section for a glimpse into live showaction and a digital vinyl player to listen to some of our current jams. No Pulp Music will soon have a video aspect of the site, so stay tuned for that addition.

An extension of No Pulp Music, The No Pulp Music Group: Artist Representation, Booking and Publicity is gaining more momentum. The company was founded by partners Lindsay Gilbert, Michelle Fantus and Jay Metcalf. In Addition to two fundraiser events that are taking place in 2009, The No Pulp Music Group will be putting together dozens of other music events throughout the year in New York City, and various other cities around the country

First off, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Ryan McDonald and I am currently a student at the University of Toledo located in Toledo, Ohio. I am 20-years-old and majoring in communication and a minor in professional sales. I consider myself to be a music enthusiast and extremely passionate about writing. After spending a few years here in Toledo and while desperately trying to surround myself with other writers and music enthusiasts of the same, I’ve noticed a similar characteristic among us and that characteristic is curiosity.

Our inspiration is born from countless hours of thinking, observing, and using all of our senses to create what we like to call our work. Our work is not something tedious that we dread the very thought of doing, but it is what pumps the blood into our veins and creates an ultimate purpose in life. Our work is what defines us as creative, curious individuals and speaks to the average person in order to inform and sometimes entertain.

Every since I graduated high school in the small town of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, I have longed to expand my myself and escape the suburban disease that prevented my mind from opening to the world around me. This is precisely why music intrigues me so much and is the framework behind everything I write and represent. Music creates an environment you may never want to live and along with it emotions that you may never be strong enough to handle. It is the basis of an open mind and the most powerful tool in media. In this way, the work I create as a journalist, as you will all see, will accurately reflect that of a musician.

The chaotic world that surrounds us and how we envision it is the foundation of our work. We give a mouth to the voiceless, courage to the meek, and sight to the blind. Our work is our lives, and our lives are our work. We are revolutionists who oppose the norm and constantly seek the unlimited possibilities around us.

In light of the constant censorship of journalism and music, I believe No Pulp will be a playground for a multitude of talented individuals to roam free and collaborate with one another to do what we do best, work.
